1954-2021
John passed away on April 6, 2021. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Jackie; daughters, Jennifer (Dennis) Kinney and Jill (Joel) Wills; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and sister, Diane Delph.
John was a gifted teacher and counselor and served as the state director of the Arizona Association of Junior High Student Counsels for many years. He loved his students and kept working as long as he could while bravely and silently fighting cancer for four years. A kind and humble man who never realized how many lives he touched.
To many of us John was a mentor, leader, and most importantly a friend. He will be missed not just by us but everyone who he came in contact with.
The John Haas Distinguished Advisor Award is given to an advisor whose service reflects John’s legacy: a legacy of selflessness, quiet strength, lasting impact, and unwavering belief in the power of student leadership. To receive this award is not only an honor, it is a tribute to the kind of difference John made in all of us.
The 2021-22 academic year was dedicated to the memory of John's legacy, under his leadership most of what we do today is possible.
We miss him terribly.
